Staff Accountant

General Position Summary

The Staff Accountant performs accounting functions and processes investment transactions, some of which are confidential and complex in nature.

Essential Functions

  1. Maintains accounts payable reports, spreadsheet and corporate accounts payable supporting files. Includes assurance of proper coding, entry into AP system and processing of checks.
  2. Provides support to company credit card administration and expense reporting.
  3. Prepares journal entries on a monthly basis.
  4. Codes invoices for proper processing.
  5. Assists in preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
  6. Reconciles general ledger accounts as assigned.
  7. Assists with budgets.
  8. Performs year-end activities, including 1099 preparation (including interim efforts to assure vendor data and systems are updated throughout the year).
  9. Prepares tax forms and payment, including miscellaneous related reports.
  10. Maintain the claims audit letter tracking and reports.
  11. Assists management during periodic audits.
  12. Serves as backup for accountant assistant.
  13. Works with IT on systems issues to improve accuracy and completeness.
  14. Converts current employee expense reporting system to Concur and current AP system to Bill.com or similar online system.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Skills described in job description.
  2. Working knowledge of Word, Excel and email systems and ability to learn statutory accounting principles, the Company’s billing, payment processing, and operating systems.
  3. Ability work at a computer terminal for extended periods of time.
  4. Ability to prioritize work and meet service standards and deadlines.
  5. Ability to learn new tasks and perform them in an efficient manner.
  6. Ability to follow instructions and adhere to prescribed routines and practices.
  7. Maintain work performance at satisfactory or standard level.
  8. Professionalism in customer service situations.
  9. Good oral and written communication skills.
  10. Attention to detail.
  11. Ability to comply with department and company policies and procedures.
  12. Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion with minimum supervision.
  13. Good interpersonal skills.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree (B.S./B.A.) in accounting from a four-year college or university.
